Mobility Chair
There are 3 kinds of mobility or power transport devices that BMS rents and sells regularly.
- Power Wheelchair
- 3 or 4 Wheeled Scooter
- Power or Mobility Chair
These devices all have ranges up to 16 miles under ideal circumstances (i.e., Fully charged, level surface, no inclines, lightweight user, etc.) Each device has advantages and disadvantages for clients with specific needs. Having rented this type of equipment for some time BMS has developed general criteria to know what to recommend for a customers specific needs.
Power or Mobility Chair
Power mobility chairs are the heaviest of all of the mobility devices, most difficult to store, transport and have the biggest footprint of the three devices. The batteries and captains seat can be removed to make it easier to store and transport. Still, some mobility chair base units can weigh up to 50 lbs. Mobility Chairs are operated with a joystick. They may not be suitable for the elderly or people with manual dexterity issues.
Power Mobility Chairs are recommended for:
- Indoor Use
- Outdoor Use on most surfaces except sand (grass OK)
- Some Bariatric clients

Electric or Power Wheelchair
Power wheelchairs are the lightest and easiest to store and transport. Power wheelchairs are operated with a joystick. They may not be suitable for the elderly or people with manual dexterity issues. They have the smallest footprint of the three devices. The batteries can be removed to make it lighter to lift the entire chair.
Power Wheelchairs are recommended for:
- Indoors Only
- Outdoors Only if on a level flat surface
- Do not use on grass or sand.
